Topping and BreachingA reader wrote this comment on my post last week "Caught In A Lie":"The AP managed to correct their lousy story. Any chance you'll do the same?" No. Our last two Presidents have had a few things in common, one of those traits being the tendency to spin a web of confusion when caught in a lie. Clinton, when his denial of having relations with "that woman" was about to be exposed, attempted to define infidelity in some pretty narrow terms, and tried to sell the public on the idea that having a blow job was not the same as having sex. The public, being smarter than the men we have elected, didn't buy it. Our current President, having been caught on videotape being briefed on the breach of the levee in New Orleans, the thing that no one anticipated, is now attempting to spin his way out of it by saying they were speaking of the levee's being topped by flood waters, and that is completely different from speaking about a breach. In one scenario, topping, you have flood waters spilling over the top of the levee, and in the other, breaching, you have flood waters leaking out of a little hole in the levee. In both scenarios, you have the same disaster, which is a whole shitload of water. I'm sure that the people who stood on the rooftops waiting for help that did not come are feeling much better now that they understand that subtle difference. By the time Bill Clinton tried to re-define adultery, he was history. And even though some thirty-four percent of Americans are still deluded enough to approve of George Bush, he too, is history. Americans are not stupid, and even those who can't read, know that no matter where the water comes from, if you're poor and up to your ass in it, you're going to drown unless someone comes to help you. Dead is dead, the same kind of dead from topping or breaching, in the end, the result is the same. History is history, it doesn't matter what version you pick. It's all in the past. But today and tomorrow belong to the American people, and in November, the Republican Party and the 34 percent of the minority that now rules the country will be held back (maybe studying history?) while those of us who understand what has truly already happened will be busy defining the future. | +Save/Share | | |
