Which side are we on? Which side are we on? (Today)Juan Cole translates a report from the Arabic paper Al-Hayat saying:... [Iraqi] Sunni Arab leaders Adnan Dulaimi and Salih Mutlak have begun speaking of a convergence of interests between them and the United States. Al-Hayat say its sources tell it that the US now feels that aligning with the Sunni Arabs against the Shiite United Iraqi Alliance is a way of offsetting Iranian influence in Iraqi affairs. This is another indication that the US is currently trying something like the switch-sides-back-and-forth strategy that Stephen Biddle recommended in a recent Foreign Affairs article. Not to be confused with a negotiate-a-peaceful-exit-from-Iraq plan. | +Save/Share | | |
