Left I on the NewsThere are some amazing blogs out there, and every once in a while I run across one that is so good I just have to sing its praise here at TBV. Left I on the News is just such a blog. As its title suggests, it is "A leftwing view of the day's news and the way it's presented in the media." The author does an amazing job of analyzing the news media and exposing the inherant biases. Let's look at a few examples of what I'm talking about:Crude-oil prices reached a new record of $75 a barrel Friday, driven by nuclear gamesmanship in Iran, continued violence in Iraq, the war of words between Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez and U.S. officials, and Nigerian rebel attacks on the African nation's oil pipelines.Standard news, right? As I've pointed out here at the Blue Voice, the press rarely mentions the lack of excess production capacity that is the real trigger behind these surges in price. But over at a Left I on the News the author makes an important point: But there is no "nuclear gamesmanship" in Iran; what there is is a nuclear (and conventional and economic) threat against Iran. Iran is not "playing games" when it insists on its right as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (or as a non-signatory, for that matter) to develop nuclear power for its country; it is exercising its rights as a sovereign nation. The one who is "playing games," and threatening to do much, much worse, is the United States, assisted by its "allies" (lackeys) around the world. And it subtle clues like these ("nuclear gamesmanship in Iran") which help condition the American people to the "righteousness" of an attack on Iran. This is just a small sample of the excellent work going on over at Left I on the News. If you are looking for timely informative analysis of the propaganda machine that is the corporate media, this is your blog. Drop by and check it out. | +Save/Share | | |
