Preparing for the next terrorist attack and the next unncessary war

Zbigniew Brzezinski is not my model for foreign policy. He comes more from a conservative-"realist" point of view, and his boosting of the "freedom fighters" in Afghanistan, aka, Muslim terrorist groups, during the 1980s is a highly questionable legacy of his days as Jimmy Carter's national security adviser.

But Zbig has been outspoken in opposing the Iraq War, and now is warning of the recklessness of the Iran War the Bush administration looks increasingly determined to unleash: Been there, done that: Talk of a U.S. strike on Iran is eerily reminiscent of the run-up to the Iraq war Los Angeles Times 04/23/06.

He also brings up something that I don't think is discussed nearly enough: the next terrorist attack on US territory. Much like earthquakes, we know that there will be one, we just don't know when. Zbig writes:

If there is another terrorist attack in the United States, you can bet your bottom dollar that there also will be immediate charges that Iran was responsible in order to generate public hysteria in favor of military action.
This is something that the public, the Democratic Party and our alleged "press corps" should also be alert for. We know from much experience now that the Bush administration has no intention of pursuing a bipartisan policy on war or counterterrorism, in any meaningful sense of the world "bipartisan". So if another major attack occurs during Bush's term as President, we all should be prepared for exactly the kind of thing that Brzezinski talks about.

The Bush administration did it with the Iraq War. They will do it again if they think they can get away with it.

No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
