All Creatures, Plants and Insects TooAnd, after you write the letter to your Senators on the Earthjustice site (We Are All Endangered Species), you can go to The Center for Biological Diversity and have a well-deserved celebration of what the Endangered Species Act has actually accomplished during its lifetime. It is truly a way to celebrate this first national Endangered Species Day. You can just check in to your own part of the country and see what's still in existence there, or you can roam around the entire 52 states! This is a fabulous treat, including wonderful pictures. The Road to Recovery: 100 Success Stories for Endangered Species Day 2006.The Center for Biological Diversity is one of my favorite places, doing fine work to ensure that biological diversity on the planet will continue. The Endangered Species Act is itself seriously in danger at the moment, so the Senate's acting to highlight its importance is to be lauded. You can find the text of the Senate Resolution (S Res 431) in this report from the Center. The ESA is legislation to treasure, not tear up and discard: A recent study of all endangered species in the Northeastern United States found that 93% increased or remained stable since being placed on the endangered list.
