Stand For Something

The members of The Blue Voice don't always agree, and we always tell each other that we respect a healthy discussion of today's issues. I read Lisa's post today, Shoot The Messenger, and I'm just inclined to disagree. Okay I agree that the messengers could use a little work, maybe we can hire some actors to deliver the message? But the message that the Democratic Party wants to deliver is "Business As Usual". I think we lost the last two Presidential elections because the voters couldn't tell the difference between Al Gore and George Bush, and no one knew what the hell John Kerry actually believed, maybe because he's a flip-flopper, but maybe because the Democratic Party wouldn't let him actually come out against the war. This scrambling to the middle will not serve us well, and promising not to investigate the many crimes of the Bush Administration will not deliver justice or some plain old truth to a country that desperately needs to find faith in a system of democracy. Don't the polls tell you that America wants the truth?

There are movements in local governments, city councils and state legislatures, to call for the impeachment of the President. Here is one in Vermont where the tiny town councils actually had the cojones to deliver the resolutions to the office of Dennis Hastert. In California there is a growing state initiative to call for investigations, and it is being stifled by the Democrats, because maybe they know that the Republicans are in charge of the budget, and they want that money for whatever, roads, schools, the friends that put the money up for campaigns.

Americans deserve answers. The mothers of dead soldiers need to know why children died, Americans need to know how long we plan to hold on in Iraq, and when we will bring the rest of our soldiers home. Americans need to know the how and the why, and I think that the Democrats should also seek those answers. This is one of the darkest times in the history of our country, and the only way we will see the light is if we have a good dose of truth. And oh guess what Hillary, that means you have to have an investigation! Finding the truth and restoring faith in government means that the people have to have the facts. Shit we had 3 years of the intimate details of our President's penis, that no one wanted to hear, can't we just get the whole truth about the Iraq war, so that these soldiers don't have to continue to die? Did we really care so much about a Presidential Penis, and do we really care so little about our own soldiers that we can't even take the time to discover the truth? Why can''t we have an investigation?

You Gotta Stand For Something, Or You'll Fall For Anything.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."

-- Cecil Day-Lewis from Where Are The War Poets?
