Rolling Stone Interview with Al GoreThanks to Mark Morford's column today (George W. Bush Is Dead To Me; Nation cringes as the worst president ever continues long, painful slog to the end), I discovered Will Dana's interview with Al Gore in the July 17 - 23 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. You can read it online here, where there is a sidebar of images of planetwide damage caused by global warming, with suggestions for what you can do right now to help turn this around. Today's "Daily Quote" in our own sidebar is from the interview. (It's no longer the day's quote, but here is what it said: "Our biggest challenge, our biggest foe, is thrall. The word sounds ancient, but it means anything that imprisons our thinking and prevents us from seeing the reality of our situation. We're in thrall to oil. We've got to break out of it. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we will save our planet." )I haven't yet been emotionally able to bring myself to actually go see "An Inconvenient Truth," but after reading this interview I find sprigs of hope emerging from the layer of despair in which I normally live. It's like what's happening in my yard after two consecutive rains have interrupted Albuquerque's lengthy drought. After I sign off here, I'm going to look up the times the film is showing. Today may be the day. | +Save/Share | | |
