The Really Important Stories...

Okay…I have to ask. Does anyone care that the geek who confessed to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey flew to the US from Thailand in business class, sans handcuffs and leg irons? Do we give a rat’s ass that he dined on fried king prawns and champagne?

I was first made aware of this earth-shattering development by AOL’s welcome screen. I had a really hard time believing anyone would report on this non-story. But AOL is, well, AOL.

This morning, to my utter disbelief, the folks on NPR were reading the same story, almost verbatim, and I thought, “WTF???” And to cap this off, this evening, “Countdown” (without Keith Olbermann, this evening…thank god) spent some fifteen minutes on the JonBenet-murderer-flying-in-style non-story.

Good Lord! Is this not a major manifestation of what ails the 21st century American media?

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
