We Just Don't Want to KnowWe used to be able to talk about the weather. It was considered a subject that everyone could feel comfortable speaking about. Now it's a little different. Today we could talk about a snowstorm in upstate New York, or we could talk about insurance companies as my Best Imaginary Friend, Marigolds2 did in her heartening post below. What's interesting about the insurance industry getting behind the Green Movement, is that they have been hurt where it counts with the dangerous weather scenario, the bottom line. Corporations never change practices until it begins to cost them serious money, hence the new interest in climate change. One reason for this massive change in coverage is an ongoing shift in the way insurance companies view risk. Insurers are starting to change their risk-assessment models to reflect future climate-change scenarios instead of past weather patterns. So why won't Newsweek publish its cover story in America? Maybe we just don't want to know. Tags: climate change, newsweek
