Sitting Behind My ComputerI, too, read with regret the resignation letter from Cindy Sheehan published in The Daily Kos. It is easy to feel her pain and frustration. But I have to disagree with her point of view concerning those who are, "not willing to do more than walk in a protest march or sit behind his/her computer criticizing others." I feel these words were written more out of her anguish than from her heart. In any case, there is a world of difference between not willing and not able.Yes, Cindy, you made a HUGE sacrifice for your cause, losing husband, family, and savings. Your contribution to that cause is no more in vain than your son’s death. You have been an inspiration for thousands. Without your sacrifice, the world at large would not have sat up and taken notice of the Bush indifference to the dead and dying in this war. And because of your sacrifice, people who would normally be going to the mall or the movies have taken to sitting behind computers, criticizing this administration; each doing their part, no matter how small or insignificant, to expose the multitude of lies issuing forth from this White House. Not everyone is called upon to make the sacrifices of a Cindy Sheehan. But we all sacrifice in our own way - mayhaps not to the extent that Cindy did, but they are sacrifices all the same. This does not make these people any less of a warrior in the battle against George Bush than a company clerk or a cook is to an infantry battalion. There are different jobs that require doing and anyone who throws down the gauntlet is adding their voice to the vast cacophony that has risen across America inspired by the work of Cindy Sheehan. We’re all attention whores, Cindy, and we need to be. It’s the only way to fight the biggest attention whore of them all – George W Bush. Thank you for your efforts, Cindy. Take a break. Someone will stand up to continue your work. Tags: Cindy Sheehan, attention whore, Bush lies | +Save/Share | | |
