Terrorists Wear SuitsIt's a widely held view that terrorism is a weapon of the weak. The truth is it's primarily a weapon of the strong. It's not called terrorism, of course. It's called low intensity warfare, or counter-terrorism. They use euphemisms like "soft targets" instead of referring to their victims as innocent civilians. The caption at the bottom of this picture reads:In the U.S. terrorists wear suits. They look respectable, and most people think of them as the pillars of society, but they are merchants of death who secretly sell brutal dictators everything from biochemical weapons to instruments of torture. On December 18, 2002 the German newspaper, Die Tageszeitung, exposed the Iraq weapons report cover-up and revealed the names of U.S. companies, Government agencies and nuclear weapons laboratories who illegally armed Saddam Hussein." The violation of international arms treaties in order to sell weapons to vicious dictators is not new, but the world-wide exposure to U.S. hypocrisy is.If we are really opposed to terrorism--the unlawful use or threat of violence against civilians or other groups for political goals--then we should be univeral in our opposition.
