Still Waiting

I posted recently about the running tally the League of Conservation Voters is keeping of questions pertaining to the environment, global warming, and energy, that the Sunday talking heads have thus far asked the presidential candidates. Gene Karpinski, president of the LCV. was on the final segment of Amy Goodman's program this afternoon, and he brought the tally up to date. It still doesn't seem to be on the top of most TV journalists' list of Stuff That's Important To Ask somehow. So, the LCV has taken matters into its own hands and put up a site called 08: On the Record: LCV Environmental Profiles for All 2008 Presidential Candidates.

Except, of course, that they don't have the profiles for any of the Republican candidates, with the notable exception of John McCain, who actually cares about these issues and has for a long time. The other Reps have, instead of any information, this notation "Has Not Yet Responded." Bringing up the question in a new context: What. Are. They. Waiting. For? The LCV has brought a ton of information together into one place, and this is a fine place to read the candidates' answers to the League's questions on issues of global warming and energy, public health, natural heritage, funding, and a look at what LCV calls "the larger context." The site also includes an environmental voting record for each candidate. John McCain's lifetime record is a big fat 26, despite his good intentions. Clinton's is 90, and Obama's is 96, but hey c'mon, his "lifetime" of voting in Congress is two years.
