What The ____?I've been forcing myself to read Bruce's postings on the Rep. candidate he calls Brother Huckabee, or often just The Huck, using the maxim that the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. (I'm actually not sure that in this case that maxim is true.) And when ever I read anything about this guy, the question that leaps into my mind is this one: What The Huck? And now I see that I am not alone in considering this question. Continuing to pass along writing by others on the subject of Roe v. Wade and its endangered position in our world, I want today to pass along Huffington Post blogger Cristina Page's post of yesterday: What the Huck?Page says that "For most Americans, the protracted battle appears never-ending, and for that matter, never-changing. The abortion debate has become political white noise, something you hear and tune out simultaneously." She is however, someone (as her HuffPo bio will show you) who has been listening attentively and chronicling the issue of abortion rights for a long time now. What The Huck alerts us to the fact that "... while we've been half listening, the conflict has changed; it has broadened. Roe v. Wade is no longer just about abortion rights. Those set on overturning Roe have their eyes on a larger prize: banning contraception. And they've got the support of at least one leading presidential contender." (my emphasis) You don't need three guesses which contender that is, although more than one of the Rep. candidates are also wooing the anti-choice, anti-contraception base, as her post goes on to point out. Every person of every gender of childbearing age needs to be paying attention here. There is clearly no political ballpark I can think of in which all of our votes won't be important this election year.
