Enough!I'm glad the convention is over -- way too much tv time this past week, and more political gossip than is good for anyone.A few random observations: Barack Obama is totally a celebrity, and that's okay. As FDR and Ronald Reagan knew, the Presidency is a role to be played as well as a job to be done. Obama gets it, and he can do it. Al Gore has never been better. He is a great American. I hope he will be campaigning for Barack this fall - his analogy to Lincoln may not convince anyone that Obama is Lincolnesque, but it was a convincing rebuttal of the Clinton-McCain inexperience argument (as was Bill Clinton's speech the night before). Joe Biden's smile is incredible. I'd like to see campaign ads featuring side-by-side photos of McCain's grim, forced grin and Biden's 10,000 watt smile. One of these men wants us to bomb Iran, and to stay in Iraq for 100 years. No wonder he can't smile. Bill Richardson needs a new barber. He looked as clueless last night as he did in his worst debate performances. I hope he will not be moving to Washington in January. MSNBC sucks. I used to like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann, but this week I was turned off by their inane patter; I watched the PBS coverage instead and was quite happy with the moderate tone and intelligent commentary. Jim Lehrer, Gwen Ifill, and the rest of the NewsHour team were outstanding. Barack said it best when he shouted "Enough!" Who has not had enough, after eight years of Bush, Cheney? Who is not repelled by the notion of more of the same? I am sick that we have to wait till January to put the stench of the rotting carcass of Bush-Cheneyism behind us. Enough, enough, enough! It is indeed time for a change; I cannot wait to vote. | +Save/Share | | |
