Smoking Gun: Keating Writes McCain, "Til Death Do Us Part"

The Keating Scandal in 97 seconds:

Oh. my. gahd.

In 1986 John McCain wrote a political note — on official House of Representatives stationary — apologizing to Charles H. Keating Jr. for his campaign having listed his good friend and supporter as part of McCain's Senate campaign finance committee.

Keating responded with a handwritten note — addressed to "senator," seven months before McCain won his Senate seat — telling him not to sweat it, "I'm yours till death do us part."
Here's the proof, in Charles Keating's own handwriting:

Keating-Letter

Here's the full transcript of McCain's letter:

March 5, 1986

Mr. Charles H. Keating, Jr.
Chairman of the Board
American Continental Corporation
2735 East Camelback Road
Phoenix, Arizona 85016

Dear Charlie,

I was just informed that you received a letter listing you as a member of my Finance Committee and requesting that you solicit funds for my campaign.

I want to assure you that this letter was sent to you in error, and I had previously told my finance people that any dealings concerning the campaign would be conducted by me.

As you know, I am deeply appreciative of your friendship and support over the years, and I would not want to do anything which would offend you. Please accept my apology, and be assured that there will be no future repetition of this kind.

I will look forward to seeing you very soon.

Sincerely,

(signature)

John McCain
Member of Congress

And here was Keating's response:

(Margin message -- handwritten)

file (Stamp: March 11)

John Senator

Don't be silly. You

can call me

anything write

anything or do anything

I'm yours till death

do us part

Charlie
Jeebus.

Talk about a smoking gun.

Perhaps this is the reason why John McCain, in spite of wallowing in the Ayers nonsense and racist filth to incite hatred in the right wing lynch mob, can't say it to Barack's face.

Go ahead and bring it up now, John. Bring it on.
