HugeSometimes, there are only one word answers. Try as I might to articulate what I'm feeling today, I'm only coming up with something like...Wow, or Whoa, or Awesome. I mean...I figured we were going to win, but I never thought it was going to be such a landslide. I was sure of Pennsylvania, but less sure about Ohio. North Carolina was a complete surprise, and I was so happy to see Libby Dole lose her seat.I was in Chicago yesterday, I spent the weekend visiting my family, and the energy was everywhere, you could touch it. I didn't try to go anywhere near Grant Park, there were people camping out for a good spot, and Chicago's Finest were everywhere. It was enough to sit and watch it on local TV, you could feel the pride of Chicago's native son in every newscast. There are pundits everywhere today trying to make sense of what just happened. They are trying to make less of this event that it actually was. What I'm thinking right now is that it was a country screaming "NO!!!", and "Yes!!" all at once. It was a sound that had been building for decades, a confirmation of Democracy, a rejection of old ideas, and a chance to build a future out of the wreckage of war and capitalism. This is a chance we will not have again, a chance we desperately need, a chance that we didn't think would come. Let's get to work. | +Save/Share | | |
