We have all been here before......

Ever get the feeling of deja vu? For those of you who were not alive during the sixties and have never heard a Crosby, Stills, and Nash song, having a deja vu is getting a strong and unexplainable feeling that you've been somewhere before. It could be a conversation with a stranger, a place you've never been before, but some impulse makes it seem completely familiar. During the sixties, or for me the seventies, the phrase was commonly used after a particularly heavy bong hit, and the person being bonged would say something like, "Oh wow dude. I just had this like...Seriously wicked deja vu." In the sixties, these feeling were commonly thought to be repressed memories from a previous life floating to the surface of your consciousness. After much scientific research, the feeling of deja vu was explained as a tiny memory lapse, most often produced by marijuana smoking, that allowed you to forget something in a nanosecond and then remember it seconds later, making you feel as if you had had the experience before.

Disclaimer: I don't know what really causes the sensation of deja vu, I just made that up. There is some scientific explanation for it, but for me it always had something to do with bongs. I can tell you truly that I have not had a deja vu since I was 18.

Until today. I was reading the Washington Post, and skimmed an article about weapons found in Iraq. They were not the mysterious WMD's that never existed, but conventional weapons that were made in Iran, and found in Iraq. This is from the Post:

"Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday that weapons have been found in Iraq that were "clearly, unambiguously" from Iran and that the weapons would ultimately become a problem for Tehran."

As I read the article, I had this feeling that I had been there before, reading newspaper articles about weapons....in Iraq, Iran, what's the difference? They both begin with an I. But there was something else I was remembering, Jeez I wish I could still smoke pot....oh..Oh yeah! The Pentagon knows absolutely zilch about where any weapons are, and you can't really even believe them anymore, because they've been completely wrong about chemical and biological weapons, and who will believe them now? So when Cheney goes on a morning talk radio show and says something like,

'Given the fact that Iran has a stated policy that their objective is the destruction of Israel, the Israelis might well decide to act first, and let the rest of the world worry about cleaning up the diplomatic mess afterwards,',

we can say he's lying. or if he says,

"It is time to focus on Iran, the mother of modern terrorism.... The time for diplomacy is at an end; it is time for a free Iran, free Syria, and free Lebanon."

we can say he's uniformed, stupid, and dead wrong.

"AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) holds its annual convention in Washington, D.C. highlighted by a speech by Defense Policy Board member Richard Perle, in which he calls for American military action against Iran, declaring, "If Iran is on the verge of a nuclear weapon, I think we will have no choice but to take decisive action." The other highlight of the AIPAC gathering is a multi-media display, "Iran's Path to the Bomb."

But we've been here before, and we know better now. we're not 18 anymore, and we're seen this happen before. A political leader says one thing, and our professional intelligence people say another thing.

We know from experience who the liars are.

No subject for immortal verse

Defend the bad against the worse."
