My Dysfunctional Crystal BallNow that things are pretty much moving in New Orleans and the most of the people that want to be out are out, I've got a future concern that's already gnawing at me.As attention starts fading away and the Republican Spin Machine (RSM) starts to whittle at the brains of normal citizens who will soon gravitate back to the sports, business, fashion and comic pages of their local rag, I'm wondering what's in store for rebuilding New Orleans. In my nightmares I'm seeing the poor districts being totally dismantled. The people have left and most aren't coming back, so they say. I'm guessing that many of these people rented their homes but I'm sure some owned them. When the bulldozers flatten the debris and all the trash is carted off and the roads are squeaky clean again, who's going to own the land?? Since the Supreme Court has said the government can more-or-less give it to whomever they desire by paying a fair price (what's the fair price for a filthy waterlogged bog), I'm seeing most of the run-down sections of the city being handed off to developers who will get very, very, rich off the new buildings that will be erected on that land. What was once the poorest sections of NOLA will become the highest priced properties in the US. I wouldn't be surprised to see very wealthy Repbo fat cats get even wealthier out of this whole disaster, while the poor remain very poor with hardly any compensation for losing everything they owned. Twenty years from now, the new New Orleans will be a jewel, well protected from any future calamity. It will be a tourist hot spot, and the districts that once were home to the poorest of the poor will now be filled with exclusive resorts, shopping malls, restaurants, golf courses, race tracks and other money making extravaganzas that we con only guess at right now. But the owners won't be black. They won't be natives of the Big Easy. They will be friends of BushCo, who will use this tragic disaster to line the pockets of anyone willing to help cover up the inadequate response to Hurricane Katrina. In fact, now that BushCo has already started putting the blame on State (the Demo Gov) and Local (the screaming Mayor) agencies for the fiasco that is unwinding still, my crystal ball tells me that presidential medals might be in store for the two Mikes, Brown (FEMA) and Chertoff(Homeland Security)who performed so astutely to bring order to the mess dropped in their well funded laps. Thank you Mike and Mike. Gawd. Talk about a nightmare! | +Save/Share | | |
