Enough Already

As a candidate, Mr Bush made sure that only diehard Republicans and their dumbass friends attended his campaign events. Persons who appeared likely to disturb the president's peace of mind, by wearing t-shirts with anti-war slogans for example, were denied entry, or removed from the venue. This practice is also followed by the Bush "security" people at presidential appearances. He just doesn't like static.

Three years into a war we never should have started - a war that has been marked by failure, incompetence, dishonesty, criminal acts, and an appalling disregard for the provisioning of our Troops - we have to deal with the results of this misbegotten war. The cost in lives continues to increase daily, and there is no end in sight. We have yet to comprehend the toll in broken bodies of those severely injured or psychologically traumatized. The financial cost, all things considered, will be $2 trillion according to economists. We have lost our place in the world as a peace-loving people, as a law-abiding nation -- we are an outlaw nation of aggressors and torturers.

We are paying a heavy price for this president and his war.

And yet, the man has the nerve to tell us it is unpatriotic to grumble, that our criticism gives "comfort to our adversaries", that we are practicing "defeatism". This Rovian tactic of smearing your opponents is a favorite of Bush and Cheney -- we have put up with it for five years now.

I say enough. Enough.

The drunk who takes your car and crashes it into a tree has no right to scold you for protesting his reckless and destructive behavior.

Mr. President. WIth all due respect. Shut the fuck up.

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
