Get Off Your Ass and JAMDave has written recently (Please Get Involved) to encourage readers in the L.A. vicinity to join in the march planned there for this weekend, the third anniversary of this vile war in Iraq. I am writing to encourage readers all over this country, all over this planet, to get involved in some of the activities that are taking place this weekend, and in fact, all through the spring months. It's beyond me how people can listen to or read the news about this war (just reading Bruce's posts about this war makes me want to put on my travelin' shoes) without joining in some form of protest activity. This weekend will see marches, vigils, demonstrations all over the place - not just in the big cities, but in the smaller cities, towns, and even the small places like Lewes, Delaware. Check the National A.N.S.W.E.R. website for events near you, or the American Friends Service Committee website, Not One More Death. Not One More Dollar. for more of the same. The AFSC campaign is particularly well-named. The news in Tankwoman's post that precedes this one should make every citizen sit up and pay attention. The programs that are suffering because we are enslaving our future generations to this debt must affect people at all levels of this society. It's time to make our voices heard in Washington. The way to do it is to make them heard in your hometowns. Update with more info: Another site to check for peace action in your area, United for Peace and Justice. The American Friends Service Committee is also pleading that we write letters to our local papers, and has easy-to-follow samples: Wage Peace Media Advocacy. This is something everyone can do, even if we live far from any organized demos or vigils. | +Save/Share | | |
