Critical Environmental Issues Next Week in CongressSome critical votes on the environment are coming up in the House next week. Today I'm passing along the email I received from the League of Conservation Voters, asking us all to contact our representatives about these votes. Representative government will only work if we all constantly make our voices heard. Don't miss this chance to do just that:From the LCV: When the U.S. House of Representatives votes on the Interior and Environment Appropriations bill next week, they will have several opportunities to protect the environment. Please act today to urge your representative to cast his or her vote for environmental protection. Rather than finding long-term solutions to our energy crisis, anti-environmentalists in Congress are once again attempting to open our coastlines to offshore drilling. Congressman Peterson (R-PA) has even gone so far as to try to lift the 25-year-old ban on offshore natural gas drilling – a dangerous plan that would threaten our coasts, air and marine wildlife. As a common sense American and an LCV supporter, you know that we can't drill our way to energy independence. Instead, we must find ways to improve our energy efficiency and our use of clean, renewable energy. Please contact your representative today and urge him or her to support an amendment to protect our coastlines by restoring the 25-year moratorium on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf. In addition, please urge your representative to support other pro-environment amendments. For example: Reps. James Oberstar (D-MN), James Leach (R-IA), and John Dingell (D-MI) will offer a Clean Water amendment, which will prevent the EPA from undermining clean water protections, and Reps. Steve Chabot (R-OH) and Robert Andrews (D-NJ) will offer amendments that will end taxpayer subsidies for logging roads in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska. Contact your Representative today to ensure that they protect the environment and public health when they cast their votes next week. | +Save/Share | | |
