Maybe We Should Call It Off This Year...Are you all running out and stocking up on firecrackers? Planning the barbecue? Baking up that patriotic pie with the strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream? What exactly will we be celebrating one week from today? We have a Republican Congress parading one useless, tired old right wing issue after another out for full votes, while important legislation that would actually mean something to the American people dies in committee. We have “loyal, patriotic” American citizens loudly and defiantly defending blatant war crimes committed by America’s finest. And we have people calling for the New York Times’ head on a platter for actually reporting on something about which the American people desperately need a heads-up—the Bush administration’s penchant for abusing the public trust, while advancing its own undisclosed agenda. Using the blanket excuse of “the war on terror.” Proud to be an American? More like confused, enraged, and very, very disappointed. | +Save/Share | | |
