New Solutions

Who was it who said, "If you don't succeed, try again?" I think it was my mother, but she probably just repeated something someone had said to her. But it seems as if that mysterious person who created that old platitude, forgot the last part of the phrase. It should be, "If at first you don't succeed, try again, but don't be stupid enough to use the same tactics that failed you in the first place. Use your brain, try something new."

Israel has had 50-some years of war to think about solutions for its security. It is an undisputed fact that Israel has valid concerns about its security, no one can fault them for taking the kidnapping of two soldiers very seriously. Does the act threaten Israel's security? Not really, but the response does. Israel, with its superior military and Patriot Missiles can take out all sorts of targets, it can reduce Southern Lebanon to rubble if it wishes, but will that win them peace?

And does Islam think it can possibly prevail without at the very least, recognizing Israel? What has the suicide of its citizens achieved? What exactly do Hamas and Hezbollah think that they will gain by more killing? Hezbollah must have been completely aware of the consequences when it kidnapped those soldiers, because it had happened just the week before with Hamas. Does the radical Islamist movement actually think it can take on the West and win? Does Iran think that because we have performed so poorly in Iraq, that we will allow Israel to be destroyed, and the oil fields of the Middle East to fall into the hands of hostile radical clerics? If we continue on this course, we will destroy each other, and there will be nothing left worth saving.

We need new solutions, and we need them today.
