For today's Republicans every election is a potential ApocalypseDigby's right. As she so often is:This is why I don't want any of us to think for a moment that winning and losing elections means the same thing to us as it means to them. Democrats believe in government and they want to make it work. Republicans see government purely as a means to exert power. Unfortunately, they are not very good at that because in the modern world sheer, dumb might is no longer possible. The best they can do is loot the treasury and leave the rest of their mess to be cleaned up by the Democrats. In addition to their lust for power, greed for taxpayer dollars and general sense of entitlement to rule, Republicans also face a more concrete problem if the Democrats win either House of Congress. The Democrats will be able to undertake investigations with subpeona power into the various Republicans scandals and misdeeds, which among other things is extrememly likely to uncover criminal activity by various Republicans who have not yet been indicted for something.
