Having Our Cake, at Long LastDespite my immersion in personal/family grief over the past several months, I was able to pull my head above water yesterday and enjoy the results of the midterm elections, glad that I didn't move to Canada, or Costa Rica during the past two years, or bite down on that cyanide tooth any of the times I've been tempted. I don't yet know all of the good news for the environment in these results, but there are two outstanding victories of which I am aware: First, Richard Pombo will no longer be able to destroy the planet from his former positions of power on House committees, as he is now not just an endangered, but an extinct member of the House of Representatives. and second, Maria Cantwell is still a senator from the state of Washington, and I'm sure will continue to use that position to protect environmental causes in the future as she has in the past. So,an enemy gone, and a friend still there. Today's Rumsfeld news is just chocolate-mocha icing on every cake, as far as I'm concerned.| +Save/Share | | |
