The Iraq War never ends

How's the Iraq War going? Some recent indications:

Bush: U.S. could "easily" be in Iraq for 10 years Reuters 01/11/08

In Iraq, U.S. airstrikes target insurgents near supposedly safe zone by Jamie Gumbrecht and Nancy A. Youssef, McClatchy Newspapers 01/10/08: "The U.S. military dropped 40,000 pounds of explosives southeast of Baghdad on Thursday in a series of airstrikes that underscored the tenuousness of U.S. progress against Islamic extremists in Iraq."

But even though we're still dropping 40,000 lbs. of bombs in a brief round of air strikes on the outskirts of Baghdad, almost surely blowing up at least a few civilian noncompbatants in the process, we're hard at work winning hearts and minds, as Larry Johnson reports at his No Quarter blog, Islamofascist Nonsense 01/09/08:

Finally, one further piece of anecdotal evidence about the Pentagon’s failure to take the war in Iraq seriously. A old friend of my just deployed to Iraq. His unit will be carrying out a mission that involves psychological operations. Guess how many Arabic speakers are in the unit? None. Guess how many weeks of training they received on Iraq, Islam, and Arabic cultural sensitivities? NONE!! But we want these soldiers to go into a foreign combat theater and help shape the hearts and minds of a foreign people. This, in a nutshell, highlights why we are making so little progress in Iraq.
