Impeach the LiarThe liar-in-chief took the opportunity on Veteran's Day to attack his critics, once again demonstrating his appalling incapacity for leadership. On a day that should have called for some recognition of the self-sacrifice of American heroes, we were offered self-centered recriminations and excuses. His speech yesterday -- with no end in sight to a war that is destabilizing the Middle East, alienating our allies, provoking the enmity of Muslims and Arabs, providing propaganda, training and recruitment advantages to our jihadist enemy, corroding the honor of our military, draining our treasury, and sacrificing human life without purpose or justification -- is evidence of Bush's fundamental incompetence. At a time when America needs leadership, we get the Fortunate Son whining about his critics; in the midst of a very real war with Islamic jihadists, we get Rovian mudslinging. The president misled us about Iraq's nuclear, biological and chemical weapons -- so did Cheney and Rice. Powell carried the lies to the UN. There is no doubt today that they had sufficient information within the intelligence community to know that they were passing along distortions, exaggerations, and highly dubious misinformation. They used this cocked-up "evidence" to make a case for war because it was the only evidence they could offer. They should have realized that they might be wrong, but these people work for a man who thinks God has sent him on this mission. There is no room for doubt. They have the chilling and despicable "moral clarity" of Mohammed Atta. The president hides behind the fact that Democrats voted to authorize the use of force, and that many Democrats believed Saddam had WMD based on the faulty "intelligence" that his administration provided to them. The president is hiding still. And still lying about how we got into this awful war. It is time we had the truth. We need a 9/11 commission-style investigation of the question -- and we need the full cooperation of the president and his administration -- but this will not happen. I call for the resignation of the president. If he will not go, then we must impeach him. | +Save/Share | | |
