Farewell My LoveliesSo, NBC is cancelling The West Wing at the end of this season. It was bound to happen. Once Jeb Bartlet is out of office, the show just wouldn't be the same. And the death of John Spencer will leave an unfillable role sadly empty. Alas- now we will lose our Fantasy President, and the White House staff that we knew and loved like family. Geena Davis and her crew on Commander in Chief just don't have the same sweaty realism, the same existential, hair-pulling angst that the West Wing team exuded. I love Geena Davis, but her White House leaves me uninvolved somehow. She and her staff won't take the place of Bartlett, C.J., Toby and Josh on a rumpled all-nighter as they once more pull the fat out of the fire. So, we are left with nothing but the Real Thing, the actual show at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But, don't you wish it was possible for us to cancel the current actual Administration with this same ease and abandon? Oh for a cosmic network executive who could just make the Bush/Cheney West Wing disappear into the fog! | +Save/Share | | |
