Out of Options

Do you worry that Iran might go nuclear? I do. I mean I'm not laying awake at night wondering if the huge Shiite Nation we've created in the middle east will suddenly rise up and seek revenge on Washington for all of the shitty things we have done to them in the past fifty years. If Iran goes nuclear, it will be at least a decade before they have the capabilities needed to send a nuke to Washington, the city where I live. Right now it disturbs me only slightly, but I think we are quickly running out of options to deal with a runaway nation bent on becoming a nuclear player.

If we could take back a couple of those shitty things, the big one being the over throw of the only elected Prime Minister Iran has ever had, we might bein a position to have real dialogue with Iran. The coup in 1953 the de-throning of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, engineered by the CIA and the British, can hardly be undone, we basically did away with the only democracy Iran has ever known, and now we have the law of Islam today. Any progress we might have made towards normal relationships with Iran was completely derailed with the Axis of Evil designation by our President in 2001. The invasion of Iraq has only made Tehran more wary of us, and perhaps the only thing left for them is to go nuclear. After all, we have been powerless to stop North Korea, once a country gets a couple of A bombs, we tend to back off. Pakistan is our best friend right now, and their guy has sold nuclear secrets to just about everyone. Maybe those crazy Ayotollahs figure we will back off if they can produce a few big WMD's.

The problem now, is that they have a crazy guy in charge over there.
The new guy, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said some insane things about the Israelis. He basically said that the Holocaust never happened, and that Israel should be wiped off of the map. Pretty Crazy. And scary too, since they are now going full steam on the nuclear thing. It doesn't help that our guy George is only slightly less crazy (hey, he thinks he talks to Jesus, and that's pretty crazy) and that the war monger Sharon is now in a coma, and the future of Israel is uncertain. The guy who wants to step into Sharon's shoes, Netan Yahoo says he will bomb any nuclear facility he can find, "I will continue the tradition established by Menachem Begin, who did not allow Iraq to develop such a nuclear threat against Israel, and by a daring and courageous act gave us two decades of tranquility."

Wow you call that tranquility? He must be crazy too.

There is a whole lot of talk in the US about options in Iran, everything still on the table, but seriously, what sort of military options do we have in Iran? Do we have a secret Army, one we're not using in Iraq, that we can send to Iran? Even if we choose to bomb the facilities, judging by the way we've missed recently in Afghanistan, how will we know if we've eliminated the threat? We can't rely on the CIA, they've been wrong the last two out of three, George Bush and Don Rumsfeld couldn't successfully invade Indiana if our lives depended on it. We are left with diplomacy, and our diplomatic skills are rusty. We may as well sit on the sidelines and let Russia and China handle it.

Which by the way is the only option left. America, once the great Superpower is now so marginalized that we can't even cut a deal with a third world country. Our military is weak and bogged down in a stupid conflict, our diplomats have been undermined by the Administration' s incompetence, our country, once respected, is now ridiculed by civilized nations. America is at the economic mercy of our creditors, China and Japan. America used to be a giant among nations. Now we are out of options.

But when you have no options, there is always peace. Peace as an option is not as desirable as victory, but a better option than utter defeat. We can get off of the war tract now, all we need is a little regime change of our own, and we can back out before we're completely defeated.

Vote for Peace, its our only option.

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
