South Central Farmers - Update 1

Updating as promised (Back to the Garden) on the eviction crisis for the South Central Farmers. They have been given a one-day extension, because of some legal problem with the papers issued on the 1st - meaning they now have until tomorrow. In the meantime, there are things we can do to help: How to Save the Farm. You don't have to be in L.A. to help out with this. On the contrary, concerted efforts from all over the country will show Mayor Villaraigosa that the world is watching this event, and perhaps help him find the "political will" to help save this urban survival farm. HT Save the Farm gives email addresses and phone numbers for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, City Council, which people both near and far can use. If you're in LA, consider going to 41st and Alameda to hang out with the Farmers (someone is there round the clock) and be a visible protest presence. Going to City Council meetings all this week would also be useful action for anyone in the area.

Here's something to help stiffen resolve to save these gardens, hopefully in a legal and just fashion. From Pruned, a landscape architecture blog, some fabulous pictures of the place, doing more indeed than any number of words.

FEATURED QUOTE

"It is the logic of our times
No subject for immortal verse
That we who lived by honest dreams
Defend the bad against the worse."
