You can't make stuff like this up

Well, at least I can't: Military leaders foresee Iraq exit in 2016 by Rowan Scarborough Washington Times (aka Moonie Times) 07/17/06.

And, despite the fact that it's owned by the Moonies, it has been pretty much a straight administration-line paper for the Cheney-Bush administration.

I guess this is the new Party line? In another twelve years, the Iraqi government should be stabilized and we'll have enough Iraqi troops and police trained to take over for us.

Except we can't set any firm deadline, of course. I mean, if we committed to withdraw in 2016, then The Terrorists would just lay low for the next 12 years and wait for us to leave.

The first paragraph is also priceless. I mean, I really don't have the imagination to make stuff like this up:

U.S. war commanders think some level of American forces will be needed in Iraq until 2016 and those forces will receive continued support from the vast majority of Iraqis.
Yeah, that overwhelming support from "from the vast majority of Iraqis" that we've been enjoying is going to continue for another 12 years.

Shoot, I'm glad they're not upset with us. Think what things would be like then.
