Getting Ready for The New World Energy OrderWell damn, Tankwoman, how come you always get there first? Weren't you glued to your TV, watching Democratic Candidates One on One, like I was? Waiting for Charlie Gibson's glasses to slide all the way off his nose? What I'm talking about here is Michael T. Klare's essay on TomDispatch: The End of the World as You Know It…and the Rise of the New Energy World Order. which Tanker mentions at the end of her post preceding this one. I read this essay this morning, made notes, then got distracted by several other things to write about, and before I knew it I had to fling off to teach my afternoon classes. Then, you know, it was feeding and walking animals, cooking dinner, and on to watching Hillary (and didn't she look damn good? Has the woman spent the past week at a spa? I know she hasn't.) , on her somewhat better behavior, sparring with Obama. And what this debate did for me was just to confirm my resolve to support whichever of the two becomes the Democratic contender in November.
But back to Michael Klare...who is absolutely the guru of the global geopolitics of oil and the resource wars that are already beginning to make themselves manifest, -I really really want this essay to have a wide readership, thus I offer this video of Tom Engelhardt interviewing Klare on the high points of the piece. It's a scary look into an almost certain future, and it makes the hopeful campaign promises of all candidates look like the Wizard of Oz speaking from behind the curtain. With The End of the World as We Knew It staring us in the face, maybe Tankwoman's bags of beans and rice and the contents of her big 'ol freezer may be worth more than any of our candidates much-vaunted "plans" for x, y, or z.
